Thor's Hammer Flint and Steel Pendant
This is a beautiful reproduction of a hammer amulet found throughout Pre-Christian Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Each piece is hand forged in our Smithy using the same techniques as the old Norse Blacksmiths.
This hammer was made from high carbon steel from an American made file and will throw sparks off its edge when struck hard and swift with a piece of flint. It also includes a troth ring to mount to a lanyard or necklace or a leather thong. This is a one of a kind Thor's hammer. Pretty Cool! I think it's safe to say there is no other like it! Please check out the photos!!!
Ancient symbol of the Norse god Thor. Thor, the strongest and most popular of the god's may have afforded protection to those wearing amulets in the form of the hammer. His famous battle hammer, Mjollnir, was a powerful weapon in the fight of the gods against the powers of evil.
I have one myself and use it to start our ceremonies like Mid Winter Nacht, Beltane and Samhaine. Imagine your friend's looks when they watch start a fire the old way.
In the book of Scandinavian Mythology by H.R. Ellis Davidson, can be found a photo of a small Thor's Hammer and ring found in Labby, Uppland, Sweden. According to Ellis Davidson, the cult of Thor was linked up with men's habitations and possessions, and with the well being of the family and the community. This included the fruitfulness of the fields, and Thor, although pictured primarily as a storm god in the myths, was also concerned with fertility and with the preservation of the seasonal round. Little stone axes and hammers used as fertility symbols were placed by the farmer in the holes made by the drill to receive the first seed of spring. Here we see Thor's marriage to Sif of the golden hair as the ancient symbol of divine marriage between the sky god and the earth goddess, when he comes to the earth as a thunderstorm bringing the rains and making the field fertile.
